Calligraphy
is a practice that provides something more than its visible product,
beautiful script. |
It
is a way in to the history of art, writing and typography, and
these can lead to knowledge of manuscripts, ancient books and
the history of knowledge.
The
basis of getting to know it is learning by doing.
It
is also, however, a very personal gesture that reveals a lot
about the individual. Writing, or learning how to write, is an
enjoyable way of 'getting in touch with oneself' and paying attention
to certain areas of one's personality.
In
this respect, the film "Spring, summer, autumn, winter and
spring" (2003) by Kim Ki-Duk illustrates this idea: a young
monk, invaded by human passions, is ordered to write some Buddhist
inscriptions on the floor of a chapel. |
Calligraphy
is fun, and it invites us to express ourselves artistically.
It helps you to develop a great capacity for observation, attention
and analysis of form. .
